Summer in Elfin Cove

This summer has been a great break, with a long visit to Bob and Louise Mourant (my parents) in Elfin Cove, Alaska. The area around Icy Straits is beautiful, looking over the Fair Weather Mountain Range that surrounds Glacier Bay National Park. Local residents and many visitors enjoyed the celebrations for the 4th of July, including a parade of locals and fishing lodges, games for the kids and adults in the community building, a picnic at the volleyball court, and a grease pole competition at the end of the airplane float. Dad and I reconstructed the front porch and stairs going up to the house. We played lots of cards and watched movies, whenever we didn't have visitors and things happening around the Cove. I continue to work on my master's degree in Education, and get on-line daily, thanks to the wireless internet now available in Elfin.
